My goal is to offer a place to ask questions and find the help you need. I am NOT an expert in everything, but I would like to share my experience with you- along with some fun tips to help your child’s communication skills grow! • DIVERSE LIBRARY | havingoursay UPDATE

DIVERSE CHILDREN'S BOOKS Be Seen & Heard® As a speech pathologist I use books to develop language and literacy skills. As a parent, I am equally obsessed with instilling a love of reading for my children and I use books to introduce them to new places, people, and experiences. I have always been intentional about selecting a variety of books for my home library, but years ago I realized that my therapy library was not as diverse. Did you know that only 1/3 of children's books published in 2024 featured main characters from diverse backgrounds? Over 70% of children's books feature animals or white children as the main characters. That means representation is disproportionately low for disabled kids and kids who are not white. This section of my site features books that depict children from different cultures, ethnicities and experiences - including the books that I authored. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but gives you a glimpse at some of the books that I have used. The images include an affiliate link and as an Amazon associate I may receive a small percentage from qualifying purchases. SEARCH BOOKS RETURN TO TAYE JONES

  • About | Having Our Say | Speech & Language Therapy

Shontaye Glover, M.S., CCC-SLP, speech & language therapist. My experience includes assessment and treatment of children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, TBI, cerebral palsy, cognitive deficits, genetic syndromes, auditory impairments, social communication disorders, and motor speech disorders. CONTACT SHONTAYE Shontaye Glover Jones MS, CCC-SLP Hey, I'm Shontaye! Years ago I realized there was a gap between what the experts know and what parents need to know. A post on my social media page about the benefits of play uncovered that many parents and caregivers didn't realize how they could help enhance their children's language development. "Having Our Say" was birthed from that post. I set myself on a mission to close that gap one blog post at a time. Since then, Having Our Say has evolved into much more, but never forgetting my commitment to educating families. In addition to providing culturally responsive and effective intervention, I am also extremely passionate and intentional about using books and materials that are inclusive and represent every child. Every child deserves to feel represented and seen. My commitment to increasing diversity in children's literature led to my own picture books - Liam’s First Cut and The Season of Yes! . For more information about my work as an author, visit: www.tayejones.com Learning should be fun and children learn best through play! Our clinicians are neuro-affirming and incorporate a child-led approach to developing strong foundations at an early age to help children develop lifelong skills. HOS on IG
